The Wêne app icon

Blazing fast & keyboard friendly image viewer

A fast image viewer and slideshow app for the Mac. Browse a folder, look through it, throw out what is bad, and file what is good. All from the keyboard.

Free · Version 0.3.14 · 1.4 MB · macOS 11.5 or later

Press ← → Return or Delete. Click the window for every key.

Four jobs, one window.

Each job starts with a key you already know from Finder. It does four jobs, and it reads every format macOS reads. Wêne is a port of Phoenix Slides, written again in Rust for today's Mac.

Browse

Your folders, in the order Finder keeps.

  • A Finder-style sidebar: favourites and every mounted disk.
  • img2 comes before img10.
  • Sort by name, date, size, path, EXIF date or date added.
  • Files that appear, change or vanish show up on their own.
  • ⌘ F narrows the grid by filename.

Look

Return, and the slideshow starts.

  • Full screen or in a window.
  • Arrows and space change slides; + − zoom.
  • Loop, shuffle and auto-advance.
  • Animated GIF and WebP play at their real timing.
  • Upright images, from their EXIF orientation.

Work

Throw out the bad ones, file the good ones.

  • ⌘ ⌫ moves an image to the trash. No question asked.
  • ⇧ ⌘ M moves, ⇧ ⌘ C copies to a folder.
  • ⌃ ⌘ M again, to the last folder.
  • ⌘ Z takes back a cull, move or copy.

Open

Your default viewer, from Finder.

  • Wêne shows up under Open With in Finder.
  • Make it the default for your images in Get Info.
  • Opening an image shows its folder, with it selected.
  • It reads every format macOS reads.
Nothing is ever deleted for real, and nothing is ever replaced.

⌘ ⌫ asks no question: the system trash is the safety net. A name the target folder already holds keeps both files, the way Finder does. ⌘ Z takes back any cull, move or copy of the session.

Every format macOS reads

Wêne shows up under Open With in Finder. Get Info › Open with › Change All makes it the default. Opening images shows their folder, with them selected; no slideshow starts on its own.
